Front Cover Friday – 1

There is something about this book cover that made me smile; even before I read the synopsis of the book. I have always loved these lovely fans. The Chinese and Japanese women dressed in Kimono and carrying those beautiful fans in hands fascinated me. The beautiful fan was one of the reasons that made me to like the front cover.

The fan representing the feminine thing; it draws a link to the book plot in an indirect way. The book is about the amazing bonding between Lily and Snow flower. About their friendship; happiness and sorrows of life. Life that gets entangled amidst the Chinese traditions.

The story line in a nut shell goes something like this.  Library Thing provides the synopsis of the book.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is a brilliantly realistic journey back to an era of Chinese history that is as deeply moving as it is sorrowful. With the period detail and deep resonance of Memoirs of a Geisha, this lyrical and emotionally charged novel delves into one of the most mysterious of human relationships: female friendship.

Having loved exploring the Japanese Culture through “Memoirs of Geisha”; I think this book will be a good read. It is going to my wish list for sure.

Yup the first one is up, great job Misty:)

The colour- is that blue or a green or a mixture of both… is so appealing and the fan with the flower print brings an instant south asian connection. I picked up a couple of those when I visited Singapore sometime back, big and small ones and they adorn my walls…. and read and saw Geisha, loved both of the versions

I would have picked this book up for that letter E… such a beautiful font and between are those flowers snow flowers (I’ve never seen snow therefore no flowers)… !!

cya and way to go…as they say well begun is half done:)

Book covers let out so many things; so many connections don’t they ? I so agree with you. The combination of blue-green background and the flowery fan is so so appealing. It gives out the indirect connection to the plot; being feminine and the South Asian.

I am so glad you like it PnA. It is very encouraging. Thanks a ton. 🙂

and feel free to share your favorite books covers over here. We will love to see them.
